Running late?
If I'm running late more than 15 minutes, I'll contact you as soon as possible.
If you're running late, please let me know so I can plan accordingly.
Cancellations:
*I will confirm appointments before each visit. If I do not hear back from you, I'll cancel the appointment.
*Please contact me as soon as possible: 24 hour notices are greatly appreciated. I realize life happens and there are unforeseen circumstances that arise: such as car trouble, family, kids, weather, traffic, work etc. However, chronic/last minute cancellers will be charged for my time.
What are my business days and hours?
I work Monday to Fridays.
I can book late afternoon appointments on select week days.
In the Winter, I may book on Saturdays to accommodate the shorter daylight hours.
In the Summer, I will book very early to avoid the hot sun.
What if my horse loses a shoe?
If you A) you find the shoe, and B) are within the first 2 to 3 weeks of the shoeing cycle, I am happy to swing by during my scheduled route, and will tack on your shoe for free.
If you cannot find the shoe, and I have to make or apply a new one, you will be charged for the new shoe and labor. I will try to fit you in on my route, but if you require immediate attention or have a weekend emergency, I will charge more for that service.
If you see any clinches that look loose, or you can hear the dreaded "clink" from a loose shoe, please contact me.
Ground Rules:
*I will refuse to work on an unsafe horse. Vet assistance will be recommended for sedation, or the buying and dosage of dormosedan gel. Other options include further efforts with a professional horse trainer, or exercising your horse before appointments, and regular practice of picking of hooves. Biting, kicking, leg jerking and rearing are not tolerated.
*I will never discipline or correct a horse without the owners' or handlers' direct consent. I always prefer having someone catch and handle the horse for all appointments. If I'm alone and I cannot finish a horse's trim/shoeing due to a behavioural, safety, or comfort issue, I will put the horse away and contact the owner directly.
*Tips to mitigate "bad" horses: regular exercise, applying fly spray, picking up hooves daily, teaching them to tie and stand at a early age, booking your horse after feeding time, (not during!), and keeping all their equine friends in the same location to avoid herd-bound behaviour.
*I will not give shots or deworm your horse for you.
Why is my horse sore?
Please call me if you notice anything out of the normal with your horse after a farrier appointment.
That would include: a shifted/loose/pulled shoe, pointing a hoof, an uneven trot (hot/close nail), or lameness.
